If you pursue an option that makes provisions for carpools, design your facility to include transportation amenities for a carpooling program: appropriate drop-off areas, preferred parking for carpools and vanpools, and space to post
Ensure that you meet the minimum parking capacity following your credit option. If applicable, verify that preferred parking spaces are included in your plans and in your total parking count.
Include submittal requirements within each targeted construction spec section and add general requirements to the division 1 bid package. Include a copy of any submittal documents that the contractor may need to fill out.
Whenever possible, designate in the construction specifications that contractors use specific sources you have verified as suppliers of reused items. This will help save research time for the contractors.
Incorporating the LEED requirements directly into the drawings and specs is a good way to remind the contractor and subcontractors of the requirements.
Revisit your baseline materials budget as the design evolves to make sure that the numbers remain accurate and that you’re on track to achieve your goal for the credit.
If pursuing Option 3, provide the two lists of students, showing that 80% or more students have pedestrian access. Draw a map showing the two areas defined by the appropriate distances (0.75 miles and 1.5 miles) and clearly illustrate and state that a total of 80% of students that attend the school live within these specified areas. The map must include a scale.
Develop detailed construction drawings and specifications for the walking and biking paths from the school building to the edge of the school property.
Fill in the LEED Online credit form. Document the credit with a site plan highlighting the pedestrian route from the building entrance to the identified bus or train stop or stops. Provide a distance scale to confirm that the building entrance is within the required distance of transit—¼ mile for bus, ½ mile for train.
