Trees sf calculation for Protect or Restore Habitat v4.1

How do we calculate the square footage for contiguous trees for Protect or Restore Habitat v4.1? Do we count the square footage of our tree canopy symbol, which is set to 75% of the mature canopy diameter, or soil area of the tree, or other?

And, does dg/rock count around the base of the tree?
