Pilot-Credits MRpc87:Verified Construction & Demolition Recycling Rates

100% of waste or most of waste?

Has anyone had sucess achiving this credit by using an RCI facility for the majority of the waste and then using another facility for the demolition waste?

A little more context: I am working on a Core and Shell major renovation LEED v4 project. The facade demo contractor will be hauling the concrete and steel to specific facilities for those materials and not to the RCI facility. It seems like it is aligned with the credit intent but the language is not clear if it must be 100% to the RCI facility.

Allison - Only the commingled waste is required to go to a third party verified MRF. Source separated waste can be reused onsite or sent to a facility where it is 100% recycled or sold for reuse. We have completed a project where cardboard and metal were source separated and diverted seperately (sent for recycling) and the comingled waste was sent to an RCI certified facility which was awarded the pilot credit.

Kristi and Allison - Thanks for these posts. We have a project that diverted most of the demo concrete to a facility separate from the general mixed C&D waste that was processed by a certified facility. Do we need to prove that the concrete processor reused/sold 100% or can we assume a default value for that?

Hi Jennifer, you only need to provide documentation verifying diversion rates for your commingled waste processed by the certified facility. That being said, you would still need to know the quantity of concrete diverted to appropriately report your project's overall diversion rate. While you don't need to provide documentation from the concrete processor, it is a good practice to have those records or receipts for backup documentation purposes if requested.
