NC-v4 EAp2:Minimum energy performance

eQuest can't define steam Loop

We have a project that there are two steam plants, one for dehumidifier and processed steam. We have rack washers that use Steam and electricity to do the job. These rack washers are fed by Steam boilers which convert natural gas to steam. Unfortunately, eQuest doesn't recognize steam as a source type for Internal Energy Source, and we can't specify that these rack washers use steam. My question is, instead of specifying steam as source type for these rack washers, can we choose hot water and treat them as they are on Domestic Hot water loop?

Modeling the source as hot water instead of steam would not be equivalent from an energy use perspective, so I would not recommend that approach. Since this is a process usage, I would recommend calculating the steam usage outside of the energy model and adding this external calculation to the modeling results. Make sure you document the calculations when you prepare the LEED documentation.
