NC-v4.1 WEc3:Optimize Process Water Use

Optimize Process Water Use, Option 2 with ASHRAE 90.1 2010 model?

We are submitting a LEED v4 BD+C NC project with LEED v4.1 upgrades on a credit-by-credit basis. Minimum and Optimize Energy Performance have remained v4. We are interested in pursuing the v4.1 WE – Optimize Process Water Use credit via Option 2 methodology of comparing to a baseline model, however, we have modeled the building under ASHRAE 90.1 2010 Standard. Are we eligible for credit achievement using the ASHRAE 90.1 2010 model, in lieu of creating a second model (modeled to ASHRAE 90.1 2016) solely for the purposes of credit achievement?

I have the same question as Deb Favaretto. Additionally, what are the requirements on the results of the energy model?  The credit EA Energy Performance remain under LEEDv4 and ASHRAE 90.1-2010.

Hi Deb, If you choose a credit under LEED v4.1, then you should follow all the credit requirement under LEED v4.1. The v4.1 WE – Optimize Process Water Use credit via Option 2 requires to model baseline system using ASHRAE 90.1-2016, then you should do it. You can check first whether any discrepancies between ASHRAE 90.1-2010 and ASHRAE 90.1-2016 in term of baseline model.
  • If no discrepancy, that means your model already follows ASHRAE 90.1-2016 and can be used for this credit.
  • If any discrepancy, then you should re-model your baseline model to follow ASHRAE 90.1-2016 to be eligible for credit achievement.

Hi from Canada, We asked LEED Coach Canada and this was their reply (October 2023) : "The project team is inquiring whether the LEEDv4.1 WE Optimize Process Water Use credit (Option 2) can be achieved even though the energy simulation uses ASHRAE 90.1-2010. Yes. The project team can demonstrate the Baseline equivalences between ASHRAE 90.1-2010 and ASHRAE 90.1-2016 for this credit."   Hope this helps!
