Contractor Commitment - Jobsite Wellness Implementation

Hi Gang,

We are looking to implement the contractor commitment and are running into COVID-19 protocol barriers when looking at the Jobsite Wellness category specific to the soap as well as the food storage/eating areas on site. Anyone else run into this issue?

Kena, Yes, we are having to roll back several sustainability related efforts due to Covid protocols onsite and in our temporary offices. I cant think of anything regarding soap, but the following are issues: * Provision of reusable utensils, cups/mugs, plates in site offices. We don’t event allow microwaves right now * Provision of dedicated eating area with recycling and composting (rare) * Provision of communal water and water bottles, alternative to individual disposable water bottles * Provision of sunscreen All of these items are suspended until Covid protocols are no longer in place. Apologies for the delayed response here--these are great notes about some CC provisions being inconsistent with current COVID protocols. I've made note for future iterations. In the meantime, don't be deterred from signing up for the Commitment. That is just the type of thing we would look for you to describe in the reporting process and wouldn't penalize in this pilot year.

Our WELLNESS category implementation has taken a turn as we are identifying what we can do with final cleaning. Our laborers are doing this on more and more jobs. I was horrified to learn that the vacuums they buy usually only last one project.  Our self perform forces are willing to spend more money to get a more durable jobsite vacuum that can be used from project to project.  What job-site vacuums are you using that are healthy (HEPA, ergonomics), durable, and can withstand the abuse a jobsite vacuum cleaner would get?

I spoke with our Yard Manager about the vacuum cleaners and we have found that it doesn't matter the brand, all of the vacuum cleaners are normally good for 1 job only.  We've tried over a dozen different manufacturers but between concrete dust and drywall dust, they're normally one and done.  He said any one of them would last a a lifetime in a normal home or office environment but the construction debris is too hard on them.
