NC-v4 LTc1:LEED for Neighborhood Development location

LT credits for regional priority

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has any insiight/experience on this one - if I am earning points for a LEED-ND location, I know I cannot earn other LT credits. However, in one project location I'm working in, three of the regional priority points are in the LT category. Is there any way to earn those RP credits?

I have a feeling the answer is no just because LEED Online is not set up to award those RP points without awarding the base credit, but in principle it doesn't seem fair to lose the opportunity to earn them. (Assuming of course that I could show compliance with the base credit - I know being in an ND development doesn't necessarily mean any given LT point is earned.)

Hi Emily, I agree with you that this is an area where your eligibility for RP credits is affected in a way that is probably non-intentional. Bottom line, I would ask GBCI if they can help. As you point out the LEED Online mechanism is automatic but they might have a workaround for this. To play devil's advocate, the argument I can see GBCI making is that LTc1 is a convenience credit that replaces more detailed documentation of other LT credits. Convenience doesn't come without costs, and you've found one. You could opt to earn separate LT credits instead of LTc1 and avoid this problem. Having credit documentation to demonstrate compliance for those credits, while still sticking with LTc1, might be a middle ground.

Thanks Tristan, great point about this possibly just a tradeoff we have to make. I'll definitely contact GBCI once we have this registered and leave these as "maybe" for now. I was going to suggest showing credit documentation for the individual credits but it also occurs to me now that showing the ND project earned the individual credits (e.g. transit service, density) might work too. Hopefully I will be able to report back here with a good workaround!

I did get a positive response from GBCI on this one - it's an unusual situation but if anyone else finds themselves in it, email GBCI for a workaround. It'll be a project specific process so you do need to contact them.

Emily - Thanks for providing an update.  I'm in the same situation and appreciate your perspective :)
