NC-v4.1 MRc2:Environmental Product Declarations

Expiration of EPDs- Registration or Submission?

Hello all,

I belive I posted this question under V4 but I am having trouble accessing it on my computer. Regardless- Can someone tell me when EPDs actually expire? I know that there is an expiration date listed on the EPDs/HPDs/Declare ect. but I have heard that as long as the document was not expired when the project was registered, you can use them. I would assume that the document has to be valid at time of submission, but not sure. Thanks in advance!

Hello Samantha,  The EPD should be valid inbetween the project anticipated start date to anticipated end date reported in the project detail within LEED Online then it should be fine. I have seen some project which had expired EPD by 3-6 months from the project end date were counted and awarded with eductaional note. Even if the EPD is expired by the submission of LEED project but was still active during the construction phase then its still valid.  Hope this helps!

Samantha, the key thing is whether the document is relevant to the product specified and installed on the project. Not project registration or submission dates, which might differ significantly from specification and construction timeframes. The HPD for example might be expired by the time you submit project documentation but was valid when the product was specified.

Both of the above responses are absolutely correct.  Just to make it unanimous, I confirmed this myself with a senior member of the technical team at USGBC.
