Hi Everyone,
Please mark your calendars for next Tuesday, March 17th, 2020 3pm ET (Noon PT) for an SCL webcast with Mark Chen at Skanska and Emi LaFountain at Turner Construction on Quantifying Jobsite Carbon Emissions.
Description:
Quantifying Jobsite Carbon Emissions w/ Turner and Skanska
The focus of embodied carbon in the AEC community has primarily centered around the A1-A3 upfront emissions associated with extraction and manufacturing. However, two contractors have been working on the carbon accounting associated with the A4 (material transport to site) and A5 (site installation) impacts of construction activity. Join Mark Chen from Skanska and Emi LaFountain from Turner to learn about jobsite carbon emissions, early-stage findings, and reduction strategies.
About the presenters:
Mark Chen, Skanska
Mark is a Senior Sustainability Engineer with Skanska USA Building in Seattle, WA. In his current role, Mark oversees Skanska’s project-specific construction site carbon, water and waste accounting and reduction measures, embodied carbon efforts, healthy materials research, and green building certification project delivery. Prior to Skanska, Mark spent three years as an Estimator and Project Engineer with Turner Construction and holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington.
Emi LaFountain, Turner Construction
Emi has worked with Turner for five years and now manages Turner’s 2030 commitment and environmental efficiency program. In April of 2019, Turner committed to reducing its jobsite carbon emissions and water consumption by 50% by the year 2030. Since then, Turner has been working on creating baseline carbon and water metrics against construction activity and investigating and implementing reduction strategies based on preliminary results. Prior to her current role as Sustainability Project Manager, Emi held roles as a project engineer, assistant superintendent, and cost engineer. Emi holds degrees in Environmental Engineering and Asian Studies from Rice University.
