EBOM-v4.1 WEc1:Water Performance

Impact of Landscaping on Water Consumption

Hello,

It is our understanding that in WEc1-Water Performance, indoor water performance is no longer separated from outdoor water performance. As such, we are finding that existing building projects that use municipality supplied potable water for irrigation are not faring well in terms of the water performance score. We believe this is because the score is based on the size of the building, occupancy and the operating hours but it does not include the size of any landscaped areas.

We were wondering if this was something that others had experienced and we would appreciate any ideas or recommendations to improve the water score given this.

Thank you very much.

Hi Shri - I don't have direct experience with this scenario, but it does make sense that projects with lots of landscaping would see lower scores. I think the only real strategy to drive the score up (pending any changes from Arc where landscaping size is factored into the calculation) is to find ways to conserve water - either indoor water use or irrigation.
