Agriculture planning?

I’m working on a hospitality project with a large scale farm to table operation, and I am concern about land space and agricultural practices. I'm looking for someone that can advise us on how to establish good agricultural planning and practices. The project is in Utah.

Has anyone work with consultants or academic group focus on this?

Thank you,

Helena Zambrano

Helena, My information may be dated, but the UC Santa Cruz Agro-ecology program used to be a leader in sustainable agriculture. Also, you might look for a permaculture consultant that really understands drylands farming in Utah. Helena You might talk with Folks at Terra Genesis. This is exactly how they think, and they have tons of experience. http://www.terra-genesis.com/offerings/ Christian Shearer: christianshearer1@gmail.com Greg Landua: glandua@gmail.com and Jesse Smith are all great members of that crew. jesse@regenerativeearth.com - Jim Newman

Hi Helena, Here’s one more recommendation. My daughter, who grew up visiting green construction sites with me, has a Master’s degree in Sustainable Agriculture and certificates in Permaculture. She has managed ranches in western Colorado, which has a very similar climate and soil conditions to Utah. She has also managed farm to table operations in both Colorado and Montana. She currently works on sustainable agriculture for Montana State University, but does consulting elsewhere. Her contact information is: amy.hutton1@montana.edu Amy Hutton Western Agriculture Research Center Livestock Research & Local Food Coordinator Montana State University Cell: 406-544-7074 Good luck, Paul C. Hi Helena, You might try Amanda Osborne, Vice President of Food & Farms at Ecotrust. aoborne@ecotrust.org. We worked closely with Ecotrust in developing their vision for Redd on Salmon Street in Portland. She could connect you with a number of other contacts. https://ecotrust.org/about-us/staff/#amanda-oborne *The Redd on Salmon Street offers a new approach to food aggregation, processing, distribution, and education infrastructure to grow a robust sustainable regional food economy. An initiative of Ecotrust in Portland, OR, the Redd is the result of a unique group of collaborators, including a farmer from Eastern Oregon, the CEO of an urban delivery company utilizing electric assist freight tricycles, and the Coquille Indian Tribe. A few years back, we designed some exhibits for the Heifer International Headquarters in Little Rock, Arkansas. They have a great "Heifer USA" department that focuses on giving technical advice and sharing sustainable practices to US small farmers. https://www.heifer.org/what-you-can-do/experience-heifer/usa/index.html https://www.mountainvalleyspring.com/our-journey/heifer-international-feast-in-the-field/ There is some basic information on their website: https://www.heifer.org/our-work/environmental-sustainability/index.html
