Like a lot of buildings with their own well, my project has no water meter. I assume that means no points for Water Performance in recertification, but is it a prerequisite? Any tips? Thanks.

Hi Tristan, when it comes to Arc and LEED v4.1 (www.usgbc.org/node/11599951?return=/credits), I don’t think there’s a way to get around metering if you want to earn points under Water Performance. And since a minimum Water Performance score of 40 is required, having compliant water metering is essentially a prerequisite. Hope that helps!

Hi Tristan,
I agree with Trista, according to the recertification guidance that was issued in Dec 2018 https://www.usgbc.org/sites/default/files/LEED-v41-Recertification-Guide-update-Dec-2018.pdf they mention two paths for recertification on ARC that both require water metering at least monthly:
-O+M projects that are unable to report data across all five categories may choose to
recertify to LEED v4 O+M as long as they submit 12 months of data and achieve the
minimum of 40 points required to be recertified. Submittal of data in the energy and
water categories are required.
-The LEED v4.1 O+M rating system includes additional credits that address sustainable
operations and best practices that benefit LEED projects to improve their performance.
LEED Online will automatically propose relevant credits from the LEED v4.1 O+M rating
system to help your project with recertification. Though not a requirement, we strongly
encourage projects to periodically review and consider for implementation.

Thank you. GBCI confirmed this. In the spirit of #allbuildingsin, one of USGBC's recent slogans, I'd like to see, and have offered to collaborate, on alternative compliance paths that will make more buildings welcome on the Arc platform.
Water metering has only recently been a LEED prerequisite, and for many buildings with their own water supplies in water-rich areas, there hasn't been any ROI for installing them. I'd like to see LEED work with those projects—including many LEED certified at the highest levels—to develop paths that fairly measure performance in the spirit of these requirements.
