CI-v4 EQc2:Low emitting materials

BIFMA Standards

We are trying to fulfill the requirements for EQc2 LEM for our installed furniture. Much of our documentation states compliance with the following:

ANSI/BIFMA X7.1-2011(R2016) and ANSI/BIFMA e3-2014e Credit 7.6.1 & 7.6.2

As I understand it, LEED only accepts "e3-2011," not "e3-2014e."

Why has LEED not amended its standards to include the updated, more stringent version? Or has it? Can a solid case be made for e3-2014e? It seems that all new ANSI/BIFMA testing for furniture is now compliant with e3-2014e, not 2011. So in not amending their requirements, LEED is preventing projects from counting newer furniture toward their certification.

Looks like LEED is behind on this! No idea why, though it's not atypical for a lag time on these things. Hopefully it's on their agenda.

It looks like v4.1 (or the released draft at least) uses e3-2014e. https://new.usgbc.org/leed-v41 "Product has been tested in accordance with ANSI/BIFMA Standard Method M7.1–2011 (R2016) and complies with ANSI/BIFMA e3-2014e Furniture Sustainability Standard, Sections 7.6.1 (for half credit, by cost) OR 7.6.2 (for full credit, by cost). If 75% of the furniture also complies with Section 7.6.3 in addition to 7.6.2, the category counts for exemplary level (90%). Laboratories that conduct the tests must be accredited under ISO/IEC 17025 for the test methods they use." I don't think it's been released how exactly they will be rolling out v4.1, but I would assume that you would probably be able to use v4.1 credits as substitutions for v4 credits the way you could v4 for v2009. My understanding is that more info will be released about v4.1 later this month.

Because the more current versions are MORE stringent than the earlier version stated in the Reference Guide, it should be accepted.
