NC-2009 IEQc1:Outdoor Air Delivery Monitoring

Do kitchen make-up air fans require outdoor airflow monitoring devices? (For non-densely occupied spaces)

We have two KSFs serving two separate kitchen hoods. The table requires all mechanical ventilation systems to be included for non-densely occupied spaces, but the credit language defines those systems as any "ventilation provided by mechanically powered equipment, such as motor-driven fans and blowers". It seems like kitchen supply fans providing make-up air would fall under this criteria, however it is unusual in mechanical design to provide airflow measuring devices for fans.

I think that in this case, since the airflow is not for breathing ventilation, but instead for make-up in an exhaust driven space, you should be able to provide a narrative of why these particular units do not have measurement. If USGBC sticks to their guns, you should be able to provide unit status for compliance with constant volume systems.
