If any informal transit networks exist, these may be used to meet the requirements of the credit. The LEED reference guide defines “informal transit” as:
“a transit service in which individuals travel together in a passenger car or small van that seats at least four people. It can include human-powered conveyances, which must accommodate at least two people. It must include an enclosed passenger seating area, fixed route service, fixed fare structure, regular operation, and the ability to pick up multiple riders."
Project teams can manually count informal transit trips to document routes without formally published schedules.
To document this approach, provide:
- A map highlighting the project location and pickup point(s)
- A narrative stating average trip count(s)
- A brief explanation of how each requirement in the definition is addressed by the informal transit network(s):
- Enclosed passenger seating area
- Fixed route service
- Fixed fare structure
- Regular operation
- The ability to pick up multiple riders
It may also help to include a photograph of the vehicles used.
