Hi, i'm working on an office building of 95,000sqm using a District Cooling System (DCS). I am using the HAP E20 software for simulation. What should be the baseline of the cooling system be?
Based on Appendix G3.1.3.7, electric chillers shall be used in the baseline building design regardless of the cooling energy source. However, that would not be a fair comparison (i.e. Chiller vs. DCS) and the results would not be favorable. Kindly advise if an alternative method such as using a DCS (i.e. DCS vs DCS) as comparison would be acceptable for submission.

USGBC has guidance for district energy system published in a separate document. The shorthand in the DESv2 document which outlines two options for modeling your systems. You can also apply 90.1-2007 addendum ai which adds district cooling to appendix G.
