ASHRAE 209P - Energy Simulated Aided Design

Does anyone have a draft copy of the ASHRAE 209P standard? It has not been finalized? See an overview of it here from IBPSA 2016 summer meeting.

The 209 committee plans to release it for a 3rd public review and hopes to finalize it in late winter or early spring. I'm just trying to track down one of the earlier verisons of the document until the finalize version comes out.

Hi Jill, I have a copy of the 2nd public review, but have not yet discovered how to post a file to Green Gurus. Can someone help me figure out how to post the file? If that's not an option, just send me an email at kanderson@lmnarchitects.com and I'll forward it on. -Kjell

Kjell, sorry this is confusing. Currently the way to post a file to our Communities is to attach a file when starting a new thread. You can't post a file in a reply. Those attached files will then also show up in the Files tab. So you could just start a new thread to share that file. Thanks for understanding. We're noting this as an issue we will put in our queue to improve!

Nothing like bringing a nearly 2-year old thread to life. Our colleagues over in the Sustainable MEP Leaders forum have undertaken the task of creating language for RFPs and Architect-Consultant Agreements that help to define the scope of building performance simulation.  Instead of an architect sending out an RFP that says "provide energy modeling" (the analog of walking into a restaurant and telling the waiter "bring me food"), we are trying to craft Standard 209 language that an architect can use instead. The bad news is that it is mostly engineers working on this task.  Since this is language that architects would be using to tell their engineers what they need, we would like to recruit one or two architects to help us draft that language.  Once our working group has a draft, we will post it here to Green Gurus Forum for a wider critique and commentary.  Just PM me if you are interested.  We have a Google doc and an arbitrary deadline of 6 Oct to produce something for posting on Green Gurus. I've told you the bad news.  The good news is that we managed to get an audience with the lawyers at AIA who oversee and assist in the revision and update of the AIA Contract Documents.  The standard agreement forms (e.g., C401) are locked down until 2027 (will we still be around by then?), but we did get a little snip about Standard 209 in the proposed D503 Sustainability Guide update that is set for publication in mid-'20.  Our efforts even spurred them to include Figure 3.2 from the AIA's new Architect's Guide to Building Performance Simulation.  The language isn't nearly what needs to go in an RFP or Agreement, though - that's what this little exercise is all about.

Well, I just put one together for a few projects over here.  I guess it half meets your criteria (I am an engineer working at an architectural firm...). Happy to join your team in pulling something together.

Kim, I just recently completed creating this exact type of RFP, based upon Standard 209, for our Architecture firm, and are just beginning to send it out to MEP firms and independent modeling consultants. I will be glad to share it with you, and to review what your team creates.

I've included language in a handful of RFP's that references ASHRAE 209 so I'd be happy to work with you and the Sustainable MEP Leaders Group!
