NC-2009 SSc4.2:Alternative Transportation—Bicycle Storage and Changing Rooms

requirements for secure bicycle storage?

Are racks or bike stands needed? I have a project with a designated area for bicycle storage. The area is locked, can only be accessed by badged personnel or if escorted, and is monitored 24/7 by security. However it does not have a rack or stand that individual bikes can be locked to. Security at this facility very stringent, I would argue that the bicycles are secure, but would GBCI agree?

Hi Erin, Since bike racks are provided based on FTE and peak visitors, will visitors to the building (who do not have a badge) not be able to use this area? To me access could be the larger issue here. Also, bike racks are a minimal cost so it would likely be worth incorporating them if this area is in fact dedicated for bike storage. It would make the space more functional and people are bringing their bikes in a out and help support your determination for how many bikes can fit in that space.

I would want to have racks in there so that a) the space is more functional and bikes don't just get piled on top of each other and b) so that someone can put a personal lock on their bike if desired. What system prevents an anonymous person from walking in with one bike and leaving with another?
