Baseline System 8

Greetings, Just a small clarification about the heating plant of System 8. It is written that heating is Electric resistance. For VAV w/PRP Boxes, the reheat is electric resistance - OK. Should the same approach be applied for the heating coil of the Main AHU or there should be Electric resistant boiler? If however the boier is the case, how are the hot water temperatures be determined. Thanks.

Electric heat is only in the boxes. The only exception is if the proposed has some sort of preheat, then electric heat goes there as well. No heating coils in the AHU and no electric boiler.

Thanks for the reply. Something however is still kind of unclear. The proposed heating plant is electric boiler supplying hot water to the systems' heating coils. The Baseline systems have heating coils assigned to: - Main AHU - VAV reheat boxes How come that the Main AHU remains without heating coil? Could you please explain as I'm sort of puzzled. Thanks

The preheat is covered by G3.1.2.3. The fact that you will only need heat in the boxes is based on the baseline having to comply with G3.1.2.8 and G3.1.3.12. You typically do not need extra heat in the air handler in order to comply. If you do I suppose you could add it but in our experience you never need it.

Tanks for the reply. Probably there is kind of interpreting misunderstanding - from my side. It appears that what you call "preheat" is the heating coil which is in the AHU serving the VAV boxes of the system. As this is zone 5A there is always such preheating of the OA before entering in the VAV boxes. Hope that now I've understand it properly, or ? Thanks

It can be in the AHU or it could be in a separate DOAS system. You only have it in the baseline system if it is in the corresponding proposed system.
