I'm trying to certify a Retail Store under LEED ID-Retail 2009 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There is no info in Leed User for this credit.
I came across a crossroad regarding the Building Types for this credit. I am not sure if I should consider my retail store as Mercantile (Retail Store) o Mercantile (Enclosed and Strip Malls) as defined here: http://www.eia.gov/consumption/commercial/building-type-definitions.cfm
As stupid as this may seem, it makes a huge difference when trying to calculate the amount of energy consumed per year per square feet, and this affects the amount of photovoltaic paneles I need to install to cover 1% or 3% of my energy cost.
This store we are trying to certify is new and is part of a Shopping Mall. It has access from the street and from inside the mall. We pay for our own electricity with a separate energy bill. Our HVAC, lighting is our own, and it is not shared with the mall.
We have other LEED certified retail stores and their annual consumption is similar (less) than the default for retail store. The enclosed mall is much higher. We are not doing energy simulation.
Would you consider us a Mercantile (Retail Store) or a Mercantile (Enclosed and Strip Malls)?

Sure sounds like part of a mall to me, your description does not leave any doubt in my mind. The safest approach is to always use the conservative one.
