We have a project that is one large structure comprised of a rail station that acts as a platform on top of which two towers sit. It is technically one structure, but the 3 pieces are 3 separate LEED projects. My question is whether the shading from the 2 other pieces can be included in the proposed energy model without including it in the baseline. Since they are highly dependent on one another, removing the adjacent buildings could result in lots of proposed unmet hours. Technically i think it should be considered as if it is one building that is allowed to self-shade in the proposed; however, it is 3 separate projects with respect to LEED.

Why is it one building but 3 LEED certifications?
Do they have separate HVAC systems?
How are you preparing the model(s)? All one model with meters or three separate models?
If indeed they are separate I would suggest that since you cannot model adjacent buildings you can't in this case either.

It is probably more correct to say it is one structure (http://www.som.com/projects/all_aboard_florida). They are separate systems. We have 3 models with the other pieces modeled as adjacent buildings.

The other buildings are adjacent buildings and should not be included in the models according to the rules of 2007. In 90.1-2010 the rules change so if you can find an addendum that changed it maybe you could use it. I am not sure if that change was via addendum or not.

It is my understanding that there is an addendum for that change, but it forces you to also include the adjacent buildings in the baseline. Seems like that is what we will have to do; otherwise, the performance of the design won't be accurately represented. Thanks
