NC-2009 EAc2:On-Site Renewable Energy

Elegible On-Site Energy Systems

What is exactly a "Low-impact hydroelectric power systems" and how do we demonstrate that it is low-impact. I suppose that electricity coming from a conventional hydroelectric dam is not elebible for this Credit.

In the USA it must meet the Green-e Standard which references the Low Impact Hydropower Institute (LIHI); in Canada EcoLogo certified; in the EU the rating of hydropower facility under the Water Framework Directive. In South America if the renewable power purchased is hydropower, provide documentation indicating that the hydropower was generated at a facility that meets the requirements for certification from theLow Impact Hydropower Institute or that the hydropower facility consists of a turbine in a pipeline or a turbine in an irrigation canal. In general it must be certified under an acceptable sustainable hydropower label. See the South American ACPs for BD+C projects for more detail - http://www.usgbc.org/resources/leed-2009-bdc-supplemental-reference-guide-alternative-compliance-paths-south-america
