According to ASHRAE 90.1 (section 6.4.3.3.1), all HVAC systems shall be equipped with a control systems that turns the HVAC off on a time basis (timeclock control) or when the spaces are not in use (occupancy sensor). Hotel rooms are not exempt from this requirement. However, in these zones, timeclock control is not possible and occupancy sensor control can lead to malfunctions’ (e.g., during nightime the system will probably shutdown even if temperature control is desirable). How can this problem be solved? Interlock with a common keycard system (HVAC off when keycard is not in slot) complies with this requirement? If not, which are the alternatives? Regards, Pedro
