Existing Building Demolition

We are working on a proposed new Police Headquarters on the same site as the existing Police Building. They do not want to move out of the existing building until the new one is ready for occupancy. What implications will this have on our attempts to achieve LEED certification, if any?

Andrew, most likely you would include demolition of the existing building in the scope of your LEED project and your LEED boundary, since they would seem to be part of the same project. Two implications come to mind: you have the potential to benefit from waste diversion from the demo, and you can't submit for final certification until demo has taken place.
