NC-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

G3.1.10 (d) "Heating only System"

Based upon G3.1.10 (d) “Where no cooling system exists or no cooling system has been specified, the cooling system shall be identical to the system modeled in the baseline building” Does this means both Proposed and Baseline case should have same airflow and Fan power as calculated from baseline case? Could anyone please elaborate. Thank you Anil

This for spaces that are heating only in proposed case. In baseline, you need to use system 10 or 11 for those heating only space. You only needs to match the OA (Typically is zero since heating only spaces usually are not occupied). Fan power is calculated based on 0.3 W/cfm as in system 1 fan power.

In the case where you do not have a system design or it is not a heating only system, you would model the same system type in both models but capacities, air flow, etc. may vary when they are auto-sized.

Thanks Marcus, My system do not fall under system 9 or 10. Its a dormitories with heating and ventilation. Baseline heating and cooling capacities are auto-sized based upon G3.1.2.2 and Fan power based upon G3.1.2.9. For proposed case shall if i use auto-sized air flow and fan power based upon G3.1.2.9. Than air-flow and fan power data will be different from actual unit installed. Ultimately it will show inconsistent between data input in table 1.4 and mechanical schedule . Any though? Thanks you Anil

Rather than even mess around with this requirement for having to model a non-existing system I would tell the reviewer in a narrative that you can model the cooling systems but if you did you would increase the temperature set point so that it never came on. The ability to adjust the set point really negates the need to model a system that does not exist so it becomes a waste of time to model it.

It mean we need to model Proposed case air flow and fan power (kw) as installed not the one calculated from baseline case? Thanks Anil

You almost always model the proposed as designed.
