I am editing this question to hopefully make it more clear. Our project is hoping to achieve Bird Collision Deterrence. We have a question on the spreadsheet calculations. If the entire building facade is classified as Zone 1 (it is a single story building), when using the BCTR Spreadsheet should we use the Z1 BCTR output as the Total Building BCTR or the Total Building BCTR calculation? The Z2 BCTR does not work when its material area is set to 0, which in turn means the Total Building BCTR formula does not work. However, if I manually set the Z2 BCTR to 0 in the Total Building BCTR formula, it does work, and effectively reduces the Z1 BCTR by 1/3 to reach the Total BCTR. Which is the correct number to use?

Hi Heather,
If the entire facade is in Zone 1, you can use the Z1 BCTR output as the Total Building BCTR.
Thank you for the reply Theresa. I'm going to push just a little harder on the question, because the difference in using the Z1 BCTR output is significant when compared to using the Total Building BCTR. I want to clarify if "can" means "must." To illustrate, if I take the exact same building as my current project and build a 3-story solid tower on top I end up with a Z1 BCTR of 15.89 but a Total Building BCTR of just 10.60. Yet by adding a solid tower, I probably haven't made the building more or less bird-friendly. Does that make sense? I'm sure there are other ways to think about it than what I just presented...just trying to figure out the most logical way to break it down.
Hi Heather,
Did you ever recieve a response regarding your Z1 only building? I have encountered the same issue.
Thanks!
