salt free water softening / citrus based chelation

Hi all. I am hoping to ascertain whether or not a credit can be applied for the use of a salt free water softener. All the benefits of a traditional softener, but without salt water discharge or wasted water from purging a brine tank. Surely the prevention of scaling throughout a system with no wasted water or contamination to waste water would be valuable...
