Mid-Rise-v4 EQp1:Ventilation

Hot Humid, Multi Family Compliance

Will direct kitchen exhaust be required for multi family, hot/humid, mid rise projects, pursuing the natural ventilation approach to compliance with IEQ Ventilation prereq.? Best regards Jason

In v4, Homes, Midrise and BD&C: New Construction all require kitchen exhaust fans to be vented to the outside. Recirculating hoods with charcoal filters do not meet prerequisite requirements. There are no exceptions to this. In addition, all residential properties must have mechanical ventilation, there is no longer a natural ventilation approach allowed by 62.1-2010 or 62.2-2010.

An additional aside is that pressurized corridors are no longer allowed to provide ‘fresh air’ to the units.
