NC-v4 MRc3:Building product disclosure and optimization - sourcing of raw materials

Sourcing of Raw Materials reporting requirements

How specific does the location disclosure have to be for the raw material supplier extraction locations? I have a client concerned about revealing proprietary information. Can the location be North America? a specific state? or are they looking for something more like, a rural location within 100 miles of a creek? I can't seem to find any guidance on this, even in the GRI guidelines.

Christine, this information is often provided in a letter to the architect or project team from the manufacturer. For this situation, I would recommend using a letter that states that the product is sourced within 100 miles of the specific project location, and note that the location is proprietary. If possible, you could provide a county or zipcode, or other information indicating that you're clearly in the right ballpark.

I'm not sure this answers Christine's question - I think she was referring to the requirement for a corporate sustainability report (CSR) which includes "raw material supplier extraction locations". I have the same question - there is no further guidance in the Reference Guide on how a CSR is supposed to meet this requirement, and there are many GRI-compliant CSRs out there which don't seem to address this information.

Hi, just picking up this thread from '14! GRI allows flexibility applying a definition of 'local'. It can be regional and national even, depending on the context of the operations being reported on.
