Tyroc subflooring?

I have a project which wants to use Tyroc subflooring, has anyone heard or used this product? This product is not a finished flooring product or FloorScore or Greenguard certified. However, the mfg is claiming that as a mineral-based flooring product, it is compliant without any further testing -http://www.tyrocinc.com/environment/. Underlayment, subflooring is part of the flooring system so how can I determine if this product is compliant? Does it need a certain certification?

Hi Courtney, I've asked around the office about this. Our healthy materials team doesn't have any record or information on the product. Lacking the relevant certifications we aren't sure how it would comply and we aren't confident about the product's emission's related claims. The product appears to be made of recycled tires and plastics which wouldn't comply without testing in the same way that cut stone or solid wood would comply without testing. LS

Hi Lauren, I'm glad Courtney brought this up, because I want to confirm with you if subflooring materials apply to meeting FloorScore standard. I reached out to the manufacturer, he said that since it is subflooring it does not need to meet the FloorScore standard, but it still does have VOC content. If they do not meet FloorScore standard how else can I verify that this product meets the indoor quality air requirements for this credit. The product in question is PyroGuard - Interior Fire Retardant Treated Wood from Hoover Treated Wood Products, Inc.

This credit (in v2009) addresses finished flooring materials. Consider applicability of PyroGuard Interior Fire Retardant Treated Wood from Hoover for EQc4.4 if it is a composite wood product or MRc7 if it is a new wood product. Also note that typically wood treatment for this type of product takes place at the manufacturer and is therefore not subject to site applied specific credits EQc4.1 and 4.2.

Summer Minchew is correct. The subfloor would be treated as any interior composite wood product; the same as sheathing. The subflooring would fall under the EQc4.4 credit. PS. I was the first vice-chair of the LEED EQ Technical Advisory Group and served in the role for four years. That was long ago but the EQ credits have not changed much since we developed and improved them (from LEED v1) starting back in 2000.
