NC-2009 MPR2:Must be a complete, permanent building or space

Renovation project and LEED certification of the addition only

Quick question please: I have an existing building of 1000 sq ft. 700 sq ft of them are to be renovated, the remaining area is to left intact. There will also be a brand-new addition of 500 sq ft. However, this is not going to be an independent space rather an extension of that old 700 sq ft area which is to be renovated. So the two spaces are going to be connected. - Can I register & certify only the 500 sq ft addition? - Can I register & certify only the (500+700) sq ft area? - Or I need to include the total space of (500+1000) sq ft? In other words, what is going to be my registered & certified Gross Floor Area in this instance? - The addition/extention only? - The addition plus the renovated only bit of the existing building? - Or the addition and the entire existing building? I am planning to opt for the New Construction scheme rather for the Core and Shell one. Heaps thanks in advance?

John, please refer to the MPR2 guidance above. The building must be certified in its entirety. There are a number of exceptions to that rule which take a long time to explain, but without further information I don't see that they apply here.
