I am on a project that is installing geothermal. The company that will be drilling the wells is planing on re-using the shale that is removed during the process. They will be doing this by crushing the shale up and using it in the installation of the geothermal. Since we are planning on re-using the shale rather than hauling it off, can we count it toward MRc3 and in addition to that can we add it to MRc2 and/or MRc5? My understanding from reading the other posts is that this could not count for MRc4.
Another item that I am wondering about is some theater seating. The owner has offered the seating to the community so that it can be re-used rather than thrown away. If we show proof of who the seating went to and that it was being re-purposed rather than thrown away, can we achieve MRc3 and other credits, or is it more meant for reuse within the project boundary?

Michelle, MRc3 is meant for materials being used on the project, so you can count the seating toward MRc2 but not MRc3.I don't see the shale as a fit for this credit. It doesn't seem like "reuse" to me, but just "use" since it was not being used in a building before being extracted in the well drilling process. I could see more of a case for MRc2 and possibly MRc5 (if it fits within an applicable MasterFormat division).
