Hello; Question; Are VRF sistems exempt from the efficiency requirements of 90.1-2007? Section 6.4.1.3 states that equipment not listed can be used. If they are exempt, why? Chillers are usually variable flow and are evaluated at full load. Shouldn't the same logic be applied to VRF systems?

Not exempt for LEED. In 2007 this was not frequently installed in the US and there was not yet an agreed upon standard to determine efficiency. Use the minimum efficiency values found in 90.1-2010 for this equipment.

Thats interesting. We recieved a response to a seperate issue from GBCI stating that IF 90.1-2010 is used for any part of a project, then it must be applied to the entire project. If 90.1 - 2010 must be used to evaluate VRF efficiencies, then all projects with VRF systems must use 90.1-2010 in its entirety. I dont work with simulation, but I'd imagine that appendix G in 90.1-2010 would also have to be used instead of appendix G, 90.1-2007. Am I right?

Not sure of the context of that specific comment you got from GBCI but in general you can use addenda or certain aspects of 90.1-2010 without having to use the whole thing. This is especially true when 90.1-2007 does not address a specific issue at all. If you use parts of 90.1-2010 for EAp2 you do not have to use it for SSc8 for example. That is the only other credit I can think of off the top of my head that would be affected.

Rudolph, If you say you're using 90.1-2010, then you have to use it in it's entirety. The only time you cherry pick individual items from 2010 is when you're referencing specific addenda. Hope that clears it up a little bit.
