Healthcare-v2009 WEc2:Water use reduction - measurement and verification

Calculation of baseline

Hi. Does anyone have any experience how the baseline calculation for the M&V-plan can be established? Are there any software available or can the calculations for WEp1 together with the number of FTE at the sub-metered floor be used to establish a baseline?

Good question and so very timely for me as well. I'm planning on going with Option D and then using the first year to create the baseline. The project in question is new and on a green field site. We are also tying this to the Enhanced Commissioning agent's work to monitor and report. It is a convenient strategy at the moment and likely not helpful to you. Is your project a new building or an addition? I'm not sure that tying this plan with FTE or WEp1 is a causal connection since this deals with process water.

Hi Susan Good inputs, I totally forgot about the process water. Anyway, my building is an addition to a HC-campus and sub meter equipment will be used at the sterile, surgical suite and cold water make-up for domestic hot water systems. Do you think it is possible to use the first year’s consumption to create a baseline? Shouldn’t these values be calculated in the design phase as a part of the M&V-plan?

I had thought the same thing initially and then read about the first year performance establishing the baseline. It made sense since the meters are there to monitor for leakages in that specific application.

Did you read that in the Refence Guide?

This is a pretty old question, but if you haven't answered it yet then please look at the post I just added. You can use the first year as the baseline - this is the simplest approach.

Hi, our project is a new hospital and we cannot fix baseline using the first year's consumption since we do not have it (it's a new building). As part of design, we have a projected water use calculation, can we use that as baseline? The projected water use calculation was done based on LEED WEp1 baseline + water use in metered systems. Is this good enough?
