Since there has been some discussion on this topic on this forum before, I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the 11/1/11 LEED addendum stating that "If new equipment is being installed, use a default leakage rate of 2%."

Good point Tristan. This is also stated on the EAc5 Credit Template on LEED Online. Speaking from experience it is recommended to read every word of the template you are assigned to complete.

How is "new equipment" defined? If we have equipment installed in 2007 and have not added refrigerant since then, can we use a Lr of 0.5% or is it still "new" with a Lr of 2.0%?

New equipment is probably defined as equipment that has been installed less than a year from project submission date. This equipment does not have a year of annual leakage established therefore the default Lr of 2% is required.
