NC-2009 IEQc4.2:Low-Emitting Materials—Paints and Coatings

Concrete Curing Compound & Sealer

I apologize if this was addressed in earlier comments. I looked but didn't find any conclusive answers. I'm working on an auto dealership, and we the contractor sealed the concrete the concrete floors with a water based acrylic copolymer that offers a combination curing, sealing and dustproofing for concrete surfaces with a VOC content of 200g/L. We originally specified a zero VOC sealer. However, the contractor tricked us by mixing the substitution in with a submittal, and we just missed it. Anyway, I know that this has to comply with SCAQMD 113, but I don't know which category this falls under. Can anyone provide some insight? -Thanks

I think you are OK. You should request that the contractor contact the manufacturer so they can provide you with their Rule 1113 classification and the the VOC category limit for documentation purposes. In my opinion, this type of product could be classified as a Curing Compound or a Waterproofing Concrete/Masonry Sealer. In the credit cited version of Rule 1113, the limit for the former is 350 g/L and the latter is 400 g/L. However, classification is based on the manufacturer's specific label claims.
