Hello,
I'm trying to work through how much more efficient my project will be over ASHRAE 90.1 2007, and I wondered if anyone had experience with how the standard compares to IEC 2006.
The local building code requires that all new residential buildings be built to 30% better than IECC 2006. If we meet this, can we expect an equivalent improvement over ASHRAE?
Thanks,
Sam

Hard to make this comparison. 90.1 is a commercial building standard and only covers residential 4 stories or more.
I do know that IECC on the commercial side is generally not as stringent as 90.1. You can find some studies that compare code stringency at this web site - http://www.energycodes.gov/

Thanks Marcus,
Unfortunately our building is sitting in that grey area of residential buildings of 4 stories, so it straddles the residential/commercial line for a lot of these standards. Thanks for the link, I'll dig a little more at that site.
