We have two buildings to be certified; one new and one existing. What are the requirements for these to be evaluated as one building for the LEED certifications?
HVAC chillers etc. will be located at the existing building and chill water lines will run between two buildings. Both buildings will have separate AHU's.
Both buildings have same postal address and in the same plot of land.

Each building must be registered and certified separately. Assuming that you will be conducting major renovations to the existing structure, you will probably be registering them both under LEED 2009 BD&C. There are no registrations that treat two separate buildings as one. Having a chiller in one that is used to supply the other is no different than having a central chiller on a campus. You may opt to register these as a block project which would reduce some of the MPR duplication, site information and a bit of the EA information. You should carefully evaluate that effort before committing to it. In my experience there isn't enough overlap in a project like this to warrant the learning curve of a block project. I am hopeful that the process will continue to improve as it has and that this statement will no longer be valid. If you read through this thread you will find many questions and answers that should help to inform your decision.
