Occupancy sensors (including passive infrared, ultrasonic, microphonic, and dual-technology) serve three basic functions:

turn lights on automatically when a room is occupied;
keeps the lights on continuously while the space is occupied;
and turn the lights off after the space has been vacated within a certain time period.
