Where should Covered parking goes in exterior lighting format

Hi,

Thanks,

Is this a surface lot with a canopy over it or the inside of a parking garage?  The interior parking and drive of a parking garage goes under interior lighting.  Then the top deck that is exposed to they sky is exterior lighting.  If it is outdoor parking with just a canopy, i would be inclined to use the exterior parking areas and drives allowance.

Covered parking is not exterior lighting, it is interior.

Hey Cory looks like we cross posted, as indicated I would beg to differ, there is a potentially big difference between the two, and the nature of the lighting design is totally different (poles vs ceiling lighting). Since it is potentially a grey area one could calculate it both ways and choose the conservative approach (i.e. the one with the least savings).

Hi , so I confirmed with the design engineer and they are standalone covered carports , they are not in a parking garage. Cory in the format I could not see exterior parking areas mentioned , I am using IES ve for the modeling .

Marcus, I don't disagree with what you said.  Just trying to break apart the two main types.  The exterior surface type specifically is called uncovered parking.

Cory the drawings specifically mentions covered parking areas , using the number in uncovered parking, do you think LEED will accept that?

So how is the parking area illuminated? Are there poles like an uncovered parking area or are the lighting fixtures mounted under the carports?

Hi Marcus, I would like to understand from your previous comment, if it is a pole light somewhere outside in an open area, it should definitely be tagged as exterior light. However, if it is a ceiling mounted light over a exterior canopy(somewhere just outside the entrance), would we be tagging it as interior light?

Yes, I think that might be one way to discern whether you would consider it inside or outside.
