What modeling software does your firm use for early design and how do you integrate performance analysis?

We are cautiously rekindling the age-old debate: how are we balancing modeling software for design /visualization and performance analysis during early phase of design.

We are heavy SketchUp users for early design, and most of our staff have access to COVE tool for early performance analysis. Problem is, I’d rather use Revit to COVE workflow than SketchUp to COVE and prefer to use Rhino+ for early analysis.. We ended up modeling multiple early-stage geometries on various platforms, which is ok for some projects, but often times it becomes time consuming and inefficient. So, I am reaching out and asking you whether you would share your workflow how your firm is utilizing modeling software and analysis platforms during early design phase.

If you don’t mind sharing your thoughts, I would really appreciate it!

Oooh…I see a Z smith dissertation coming or experiencing a déjà vu. I don’t have much useful to add right away but thinking of several quotes: 1. It’s not the plane. It’s the pilot. (Top Gun Maverick) 2. A model is a lie that helps you see the truth. (H. Skipper) 3. All models are wrong, but some are useful. (George E. P. Box) Ramana. Thanks, Ramana.. I know what you mean, but I feel like I'm spending way too much time cleaning up the geometry than doing actual analysis. And more importantly, I am requesting budget increase to get more license for Rhino & training etc., and receiving a somewhat pointed questions as well as worried looks from SketchUp users.. I don’t suggest getting rid of any tools but wanted to get some balance, and I said I would ask what other smart people or firms are doing for their early modeling and analysis workflow..
