What is BIS eligibility?

BIS eligibility refers to whether a product falls under the mandatory certification list defined by the Bureau of Indian Standards. Eligibility depends on factors like product category, usage, and applicable Indian standards (IS codes). For example, electronics, electrical appliances, and construction materials often require BIS certification. Both Indian and foreign manufacturers can apply, but foreign companies must appoint an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR). Before applying, it is important to check if your product is listed under schemes like CRS or ISI. Determining eligibility is the first step in the certification process and helps avoid unnecessary delays or rejections.
