The WELL Conference

Is anyone planning on attending the WELL Conference in Scottsdale in March?  I'm trying to figure out if it's worth attending or not?

Dee, I will be attending the WELL conference. They have just come out with the speakers: https://www.thewellconference.com/keynotes   Happy to share some takeaways following the conference if you cannot attend.    Thanks, Kena

I was slightly surprised by the announcement of the keynote speakers... as a WELL AP and Performance Testing Agent, I'm currently not planning on attending. With my current conference - and work - schedule, the timing isn't great. Something we might be interested in going forward, but since WELL is so dependent on company operations and policies it almost seems like the ideal audience for a WELL conference isn't, in fact, industry professionals and designers, but building owners, developers, etc...?

Agreeing with Margaret & Jim.  I get a "Greenbuild" light/mimic feeling about it (old guard as the keynote speakers).  It's quite pricey in my opinion.   We have a few events locally, namely the Healthy Building Summit lead by a few SD Leaders and Alumni - i.e Meridith :)] that we feel is much more worth attending and has more impact in our work.  And we are so busy as well.  Too many conferences competing with each other for time, budget and carbon footprint.  Why not combine Greenbuild with WELL?  Martine

Apologies: Meredith not Meridith (typo) :)

I agree Martine. Given that Greenbuild is already including educational sessions that cover many of the certification systems administered by GBCI, it already sort of is integrated into Greenbuild. TRUE, PEER, WELL, LEED, etc. Lois

Thanks, everyone, for the input.  I'm decided not to go for many of the reasons you all mentioned, but I am looking forward to feedback from those who do attend.  I did hear from a colleague in Boston who's WELL faculty that they were calling people personally to encourage them to attend so they must not be hitting their target numbers (and hence the later early bird registration date).

Dee - as a WELL Faculty, I haven't received that call yet, but am fully expecting to. We've got a bunch of WELL APs, Faculty, and are a Performance Testing Agency, so it would make sense for us to be there. But I made the decision not to attend and decided that we won't send anybody else from the firm. I may be a bit cynical, but I'm weary of the increasing monetization of the standard and the "pay to play" culture they seem to be embracing/expanding. Based on that, I decided that they need to prove the value of this conference to us before we invest in sending people to it, so any reports back from attendees would be most welcome.

I will be attending The WELL Conference because it is local and a few clients are attending. Because WELL is more operationally based, it is interesting that is geared more towards companies than consultants. I will definitely report back. ashley mulhall SENIOR ASSOCIATE AIA, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP, EDAC orcutt | winslow PHOENIX • NASHVILLE • DALLAS/FORT WORTH 2929 n central ave • eleventh floor • phoenix az 85012 602.257.1764 t | 480.862.4502 c | www.owp.com FACEBOOK • TWITTER • INSTAGRAM From: Pete
