Webinar--Downscaled Future Climate Data: Where to Get It and How to Use It

It's time for our next Peer Networks webinar! Ariane wowed us with her five minutes on future climate data at the Show-and-Tell at HKS in Chicago last November. Now we'll get the deep dive.

Wednesday, May 29, 2:00 pm EDT

Remember--this live webinar is for Peer Network members only. If possible, we'll make the recording available to share in your firm.

More details:
What weather data are you using to inform design? Learn where to access high-resolution climate projection data for your projects, and how to use it. Be an early adopter as the AEC industry moves from considering weather as static to using information about our changing climate to inform design.

Ariane Laxo, CID, LEED AP ID+C, EDAC, is an interior designer and Associate Vice President at HGA in Minneapolis. She has led HGA’s resilience research, tool and process development since 2014. Under her leadership, HGA has developed a resilient design process that involves forecasting, assessing, and planning for risk, with the client as a partner and critical decision-maker throughout. From using climate projection data to inform early design decisions to leading collaborative resilience planning workshops, HGA has led the industry in the integration of climate resilience into practice.

Ariane has served on USGBC's LEED Resilience Working Group, is founding chair of the Minnesota Resiliency Collaborative, a knowledge-sharing forum for climate change adaptation professionals across the state, and has represented HGA in AIA's National Resilience Initiative - Upper Midwest Hub.

Hi! I think everyone who attended would agree that Ariane's webinar last week was packed with useful information. There is now a link the slides and to the recording on the Webinars page: https://www.buildinggreen.com/peer-networks/green-gurus/webinars -- check it out and feel free to share it with others in your firm. Also, Ariane closed with a call to action that we might all want to pay attention to: Fund climate projection data & resources:
  • Design Guide for Climate Resilience (with ARUP, AIA)
  • New potential tool using LoCA for FMY files & IDF curves
Advocate:
  • Ask ASHRAE for climate projection guidelines
  • State downscaling
  • Suggest using climate projection data to clients, or just do it and show them why it matters
For more information, contact Ariane Laxo, HGA (alaxo@hga.com).
