Hello Green Gurus,
Now is a pivotal moment. Net Zero Stretch Code legislation has been proposed in the Massachusetts House and Senate, and draft code language is currently being developed by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS). The Net Zero Stretch Code is currently the greatest single opportunity to support reduced building emissions in MA. There is momentum behind the Net Zero Stretch Code, but it is far from guaranteed that it will be implemented.
A demonstration of Massachusetts building industry support has a crucial role to play to ensure success. Therefore, we have written a support letter from building industry professionals (architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, even select enlightened developers and real estate agents, etc.). Firms with offices in MA and MA-based professionals can sign-on in support. (Yes, we want both your firm to formally sign on and every individual professional signature we can get.)
You can learn more about this initiative here. You can read the letter here, and even be one of the first to sign on in support.
We are aiming to gather as many firm endorsements and individual signatures as possible before Oct 23, when we will announce the number of signatures collected at the USGBCMA Green Building Showcase at the Design 4 People Conference. We will then present the letter and signatures at the public BBRS hearing in early November.
Please email jknowles@brplusa.com if your company has an office in Massachusetts and you are willing to be your company's champion, getting buy-in from leadership to get your firm to sign on and speaking with your MA-based colleagues to get them to sign on individually. You can also reach out to your networks of like-minded professionals that will do the same. (Please do not make announcements to the general public (yet) or notify companies or organizations that may fight against us.)
Please join us, it is time to make the earth shake!
