Water metering v4.0 Janitor's closet water usage

Hi Alicia, we had the indoor plumbing fixtures portion of this credit denied on a recent project for the same reason. On discussing further with GBCI it was noted that there wasn't really a rule of thumb we could use, it would just have to actually be separately metered. From that conversation it sounded like the reviewer had (understandably!) gotten a lot of pushback on this approach, and they'd sent that up the chain of command, but ultimately the approach has not changed. The rationale was that the intent is to meter water consumption loads separately and JCs are process water, and no exception is made for projects with small process water loads.. Doesn't really add up to me, as JCs alone are negligible compared to flush volume, and a project should still be able to detect leaks or other issues without separating JCs, but that was the final word... So I guess my advice for this situation is keep adding to the feedback to USGBC on this issue, but don't expect to earn the credit without actually metering the JC water flow. 

Hi Alicia, Were you able to calculate the janitor's closet water usage to demonstrate that it is not more than 20% of the indoor plumbing? This same point has been raised by the review in one of our project along with water coolers. Please let me know how you addressed this point and were you able to achieve the point.

Hi Alicia and all, Checking in on Devendra's question above, we have gotten this same comment on a few projects going through design review right now and are wondering how to demonstrate the janitor closet water usage is minimal. Any insights are appreciated!
