NC-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

Water-cooled screw chiller- Minimum Efficiency

Hi, I would like to seek expert advice in the following. 1) Can anybody advise if water-cooled screw chillers intended to operate at non-standard conditions (Middle East) must comply with Table 6.8.1C efficiency requirements? In ASHRAE 90.1 2007 Section 6.4.1.2, I could see only references to water cooled centrifugal chillers. 2) In LEED 2009, it is mentioned that we should follow ASHRAE 90.1-2007 without addenda for EAp2. And ASHARE has released an addendum in 2008 which contains major changes in equipment efficiency requirements. My question is, can I use this addendum for LEED NC 2009 project and if used, should I comply with all the addedum references in all sections.? If I want to use the addendum equipment efficiencies, should I also comply with all other sections in addendum.? many thanks in advance..

1) The applied conditions do not matter. The efficiency is at the rated conditions. Equipment efficiency is a mandatory provision. This issue has been raised numerous times related to international projects. If equipment meeting the minimum efficiency is not available then explain the situation for the LEED reviewer but understand this is a risky thing to do for LEED projects as this could mean the project cannot earn the prerequisite. 2) There is a footnote which indicates that addenda may be used at the discretion of the project team. You must apply the addenda in its entirety and if applicable across any other LEED credits. You do not have to use them all if using just one.

Marcus, thanks for your advice. Could you please elaborate your statement 'You do not have to use them all if using just one'. Do you mean to say that I can follow the addenda equipment efficinecy requirements but doesn't need to comply with other addenda sections..?

There are several addenda. You do not have to apply them all, you can pick and choose. If you do apply one then you must use it in its entirety. You can't just pick out a part of an addendum.
