I see that water-bottle fill stations / drinking fountains are not on the list of fixtures in the calculator. Do we just leave those out of the water savings calculations? Or should they be accounted for in some way?

Hi Erin,
You can leave them off the calculator entirely. Enjoy your drinking fountain freedom.

Our LEED-NC v2009 project is installing filtered water bottle fillers throughout. Can this be used for an ID credit?

Hi Susan,
Unfortunately, no, this strategy does not meet the criteria outlined in the Reference Guide: "The strategy must be comprehensive. Measures that address a limited portion of a project or are not comprehensive in other ways are not eligible. The project team must demonstrate that the proposed innovation credit applies to the entire project being certified under LEED and has at least two components (i.e., it is not limited to use of a single product)."
Additionally, the practice of installing the bottle fillers is becoming more standard practice for projects as teams warm up to accommodating their occupants' health and wellness needs. Fitwel and WELL have this topic integrated into their criteria. The LEED Reference Guide also states "The concept the project team develops for the Innovation credit must be applicable to other projects and must be significantly better than standard sustainable design practices."
I do not believe the fillers meet that criteria, either.
