My client's building obtained the MRc6 (Waste Stream Audit) credit four years ago with our LEED EBOM v2009 certification. We did not receive MRc7 (Waste Mgmt of Ongoing Consumables). According to the Oct 2013 LEED EBOM Recertification Guidance document any project that received MRc7 and MRc6 can continue to receive MRc6 with only one audit during the 5 year recertification performance period. If MRc7 was not obtained then a waste audit is supposed to be performed annually. We only learned of this requirement in January 2014 when the client asked me to get started on the recertification. We can't go back and do audits in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Does this mean we aren’t going to be able to obtain this credit? Has there been a variance for this? Thank you.

Hi Blair, since the guidance wasn't published until 2013 you shouldn't be held to that rule for 2011 and 2012. GBCI may make an exception for 2013 as well, especially if you earn MRc7 in your recertification application. I have an old copy of the guidance published in April 2013 which does show that the audit must be completed annually unless MRc7 was awarded, so I'm not 100% sure that you can get a pass for 2013. I recommend reaching out to GBCI on this to get a concrete answer for your specific project. They are generally very receptive to helping teams navigate the recertification process. Hope this helps!

Vanessa,
I am wondering what GBCI decided to do in your situation?
