NC-v4 EAc6:Enhanced refrigerant management

Walk in fridge/freezer

Hello,

I'm trying to determine if a walk in fridge/freezer would be included in this credit. The guide mentions standard fridges are exempt but the credit guidance seems to be focused on HVAC and refrigeration systems and I'm not certain if a walk in fridge/freezer unit is to be included.

Thank you,

Sophie

Any equipment with "more than 0.5 lbs of refrigerant."  A reviwer would certainly ask for more information on a walk-in fridge/freezer. But not an Energy Star residential unit.  Plan on providing an explantation for any commerical size refrigeration unit.

I agree with Martha.  One other comment I'd like to add is that the reference guide is written in a very confusing manner. When reading the requirements sections it appears that commercial refrigeration are exempt from non-Retail projects, since there is a specific heading "Retail" where it lists the requireements for commercial refrigeration systems.  Although when you read further into the "Rating Systems Variations - Retail" it states: "Non-Retail projects that have commercial refrigeration systems may follow the prescriptive criteria available to retail projects for commercial refrigeration systems. Both these prescriptive criteria for the commercial refrigeration systems and the credit requirements for the HVAC refrigerant-using systems must be met to achieve credit compliance in this case." Hope this helps!

I am adding freezer and cold rooms units to calculations, however I am unsure about meeting the retail commercial system requirement: "Average HFC refrigerant charge is no more than 1.75 lb of refrigerant per 1,000 BTU/h (2.72 g of refrigerant per kW) total evaporator cooling load." Sophie or anyone who has had experience on similar systems, did you submit compliance for the below requirement?
